Windows 2008 Record of Failed Login Attempts

If your dedicated server is using Windows 2008 as its operating system it is possible to view a record of both failed and successful log in attempts. This information is usually available in the event viewer, but sometimes it may require a slight change to the Network Policy Server (NPS) to begin logging these events. If you notice that the event viewer on your Windows dedicated server is not logging login authentications and failures, on your dedicated server desktop click START then in the Search box type: cmd. In the programs list that comes up right click cmd, then click Run as administrator. (at this point you may be asked for your administrator password). Next, click CONTINUE, then at the command prompt type: auditpol /set /subcategory:"Network Policy Server" /success:enable /failure:enable. Then click ENTER.
